Semifinalists for the Genoa Days King and Queen contest have been announced.

GENOA – The Genoa Days King & Queen Scholarship Contest Committee has announced the semifinalists in this year’s contest.

The 2013 candidates for king are Quinn Anderson, Lane Bankson, Logan Bankson, Zane LaCasse, Mason Lucca, Adam Price, Benjamin Rabe, Cal Thompson, Daniel Thorsen and Gabriel Williams-Torres.

Candidates for queen are Melissa Baus, Taylor Dehmlow, Danielle Engel, Samantha Fisher, Meredith Fitzsimmons, Vanessa Garza, Victoria Hensley, Julia Mendoza, Aubrey Schuls-Trongeau, Shannon Schumacher and Daphne Vassmer.

The semifinalists will complete a detailed questionnaire, which the committee will use to narrow the field to five finalists for each role. The final private judging will take place on June 12, and judging will be completed on the main stage in downtown Genoa at 8 p.m., when the 2013 Genoa Days King and Queen will be crowned.

This year marks the 54th anniversary of the contest. The Genoa Area Chamber of Commerce and member businesses recognize the importance of education and the increasing costs and are happy to offer a larger scholarship award this year. This year’s king and queen will each receive $1,000 for continuing education, and runners-up will receive $100 each.
