So you want to be a swim instructor...
DeKALB – The DeKalb Park District has started a new course for older teens and adults interested in teaching swimming. Successful completion will make applicants more marketable as swim instructors.
Knowing how to swim, or even being a lifeguard, does not necessarily qualify one as a good swim instructor. This class includes age-appropriate skills, vocabulary, tools, safety and more. Students will develop skills on teaching group and private programs. Several area park districts have expressed an interest in students who successfully complete this course.
Participants should be able to swim 25 yards of the front stroke, back crawl, side stroke and breast stroke.
The class will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 18 through April 19 at Huntley Middle School in DeKalb. Register at Haish Gym, 303 S. Ninth St., or the park district Sports and Recreation Center, 1765 S. Fourth St., both in DeKalb. The course fee is $60 for district residents and $75 for nonresidents. Call 815-756-8560 for information.
