So you want to be a swim instructor...

DeKALB – The DeKalb Park District has started a new course for older teens and adults interested in teaching swimming. Successful completion will make applicants more marketable as swim instructors.

Knowing how to swim, or even being a lifeguard, does not necessarily qualify one as a good swim instructor. This class includes age-appropriate skills, vocabulary, tools, safety and more. Students will develop skills on teaching group and private programs. Several area park districts have expressed an interest in students who successfully complete this course.

Participants should be able to swim 25 yards of the front stroke, back crawl, side stroke and breast stroke.
