Health system supports parks

DeKALB – Cynthia N. Capek, executive director of the DeKalb Park District, presented a state award to Kevin Poorten, KishHealth System president and CEO, recognizing the contributions the health system has made to the park district. The park district nominated the health system for the Community Service Award sponsored by the Illinois Park and Recreation Association and Illinois Association of Park Districts.

“What better way to say thank you to individuals, volunteers or organizations than by celebrating those who support local programming in so many ways. The Community Service Award recognizes the efforts and contributions that make recreation a vital part of everyone’s lifestyle,” Capek said. “In deciding the recipient of this year’s award, park district staff discussed the ways that KishHealth System has supported DeKalb Park District.”

Capek said the health system has provided ongoing support to DeKalb Park District’s Movies in the Park and the DeKalb Scholarship Golf Outing. The health system is also involved in a number of community initiatives including Live Healthy DeKalb County, lending staff to trail and garden current initiatives, as well as a number of community events such as local runs and other special activities and events.

“The Illinois Park and Recreation Association and Illinois Park Districts, with the DeKalb Park District, are happy to recognize the health system for these efforts,” Capek said.
