Lions adopt a family

GENOA – The Genoa Lions of District 1D adopted a local family to bless with Christmas presents. Each Christmas, the Lions find a family that needs a little help with gifts for the kids.

Angelo Lekkas, the principal of Kingston Elementary school, and his assistant identified the family and assisted the Lions in making a wish list. Toys, a winter coat, a basketball, a doll, games and stocking stuffers were purchased by the wife of the Lions’ secretary, who braved the shopping hordes on Black Friday to make the donation money go farther. Armed with $250 and a shopping list, she was successful. A gift certificate to a Sycamore grocery store for $50 to ensure a nice Christmas dinner was the final piece of the donation.

The family remains anonymous and is unknown even to the Genoa Lions, who believe what is most important is helping those in need at this time of year.
