Shelters hope to send pets home for the holidays
GENEVA – TAILS Humane Society in DeKalb will partner with the Animal Care League at the third annual Jingle Paws Adoption Event from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9.
The event will be at the Geneva Commons shopping center in Geneva. Dogs and puppies will be located in the retail space between LOFT and J.Jill, and cats and kittens will be located at Wet Nose.
“We are very grateful to Geneva Commons for providing us with a location to hold our adoption event again this year,” said Beth Drake, TAILS executive director. “Last year was such a huge success, we are excited to attend Jingle Paws again and would like to thank TechPro, Wet Nose and Animal Care League for partnering with us.”
Each year, thousands of homeless pets enter animal shelters. Most pets are relinquished to shelters because of owner-related issues such as economic difficulties and divorce. These dogs and cats are highly adoptable and make wonderful companions, easily adapting to their new families. The Jingle Paws Adoption Event will provide prospective adopters with a large selection of healthy, spayed/neutered, vaccinated pets to choose from. This year’s event will also include about 50 adoptable dogs rescued in mid-October from overcrowded shelters in Oklahoma through an effort funded by Petco Foundation.
“The holidays are a great time to adopt,” Maria Schau, TAILS offsite adoption coordinator, said. “With time off from work, most people have more time to spend with their pets during the holidays than they do the rest of the year. As long as adopters ensure that their home is pet friendly, we encourage adoptions during the holiday season. ...Our goal is to find Forever Homes for at least 60 homeless pets through this adoption event.”
