DeKALB – The Newman Catholic Student Center and Christ the Teacher University Parish will hold its 52nd annual benefit dinner at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1. The madrigal-style dinner, called “Merriment and More,” will be hosted by St. Thomas More and his wife, Lady Alice.
The evening will begin with a social hour while guests bid on beautiful and extraordinary silent auction items. The parish basement will be transformed into a medieval castle, where dinner will be served. The menu, prepared by Lincoln Inn, will feature a honey citrus Cornish hen half with herb roasted pork loin, homemade stuffing, sweet potato and vegetable medley, salad, fresh baked breads and assorted fruit cobbler with whipped cream. A vegetarian option is available upon request.
As they eat, diners will be treated to entertainment for both eye and ear as parishioners and students perform. A live auction and dancing will follow.
The annual benefit dinner has raised funds to help with the daily function and upkeep of the Newman Catholic Student Center, on the campus of Northern Illinois University, since 1960. This is the first time in recent history the dinner will have a stronger entertainment focus.
Reservations are $45 per person and the attire is semi-formal. To make reservations, call the parish office at 815-787-7770. For more information, visit www.newmanniu.org and click on “Benefit Dinner.”
