Christmas in Kirkland Dec. 1

KIRKLAND – The Greater Kirkland Area Chamber of Commerce will host its annual Christmas in Kirkland from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Alpine Bank in Kirkland.

Santa will be at the bank to pose for pictures with children. He will arrive at 9 a.m. by horse-drawn wagon; the wagon will be available for free rides. Holiday refreshments will be available. The Hiawatha Schools band and chorus will provide holiday music during the festivities.

At 10 a.m., awards will be presented to children from Hiawatha Elementary School with winning artwork and essays. A $25 prize will be given to a winner at each grade level. Prizes will also be awarded in the village’s holiday lights contest.

From 7 to 10 a.m., the Kirkland United Methodist Church will present its annual breakfast. The cost for adults is $6, children $3, and children younger than 4 eat free. Visitors are asked to bring paper products to supply the food pantry. Children can make Christmas crafts at the church during the breakfast.

The chamber is accepting entries in the holiday lights contest. Entry forms are available at Alpine Bank, the Kirkland post office and village hall. Only homes registered at these sites will be judged. Judging begins Nov. 26.
