Singer/songwriter in concert
DeKALB – The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of DeKalb will host a special return concert by nationally-known singer/songwriter Peter Mayer at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30. The church is located at 158 N. Fourth St. in DeKalb. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
Mayer writes songs about interconnectedness and the human journey. His songs cover the whimsical, the humorous and the profound. He is a masterful storyteller who always provides wit.
Acoustic Guitar magazine described Mayer’s sound as “music for the soul” and said his songs “are crafted like Shaker furniture, with no throwaway lines ... Mayer’s fluid, clean and tremendously intriguing guitar playing is topped with warm, rich vocals.”
Mayer began playing guitar and writing songs when he was in high school. He studied theology and music in college, and then spent two years in seminary. After deciding that the priesthood was not for him, he took a part-time job as a church music director for eight years while performing in clubs and on college campuses. He has been touring full time since 1995, selling out shows across the U.S. His eight CDs have sold more than 50,000 copies.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Children 11 and younger are admitted free. Seating is limited. Childcare will be provided for children younger than six.
