DeKALB – The DeKalb Citizens’ Environmental Commission is accepting nominations for the 2012 P.R.I.D.E. (People Responsible for Improving DeKalb’s Environment) Award.

The P.R.I.D.E. Award recognizes residents, businesses or other entities that have significantly improved the quality of the physical environment in DeKalb by emphasizing resource conservation, energy efficiency, beautification, waste reduction or other things that improve the quality of life in the community. Those conducting projects or programs aimed at increasing public awareness and knowledge of specific environmental issues are also eligible.

This year marks the 20th anniversary for P.R.I.D.E. Awards, which are sponsored by the Citizens’ Environmental Commission. The commission is composed of a broad group of community volunteers appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the city council. Its mission is to promote an increased awareness and understanding of environmental issues in DeKalb and to recommend practical means for environmental improvement.
All nominations will be reviewed by the Citizens’ Environmental Commission, which will make the selections. Awards will be presented at the Feb. 11, 2013 meeting of the DeKalb City Council.
