After two years of fundraising, Shabbona Living Centers has acquired Stella, a therapeutic robot seal.

SHABBONA – After two years of fundraising efforts, Shabbona Living Centers announced the arrival of Stella, a therapeutic robot which has been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most effective therapeutic pet of its kind.

While similar robots have visited local nursing homes, Shabbona Living Centers is the only long-term care community in Illinois to be fortunate enough to permanently acquire this state-of-the-art  technology.

Stella was introduced to staff, residents and the community at events throughout the late summer and fall, including at an open house attended by more than 200 people.

Stella is able to offer comfort to members of the community by providing a sense of companionship. She responds to stimuli, recognizes her name, remembers interaction, and  expresses feelings through noises, body movements and facial expressions.

Shabbona Living Centers are unique to the area with assisted living, skilled nursing, a secured memory care unit and physical, occupational and speech therapies provided on one convenient campus. Transportation assistance is also available to and from doctors appointments, so patients are free to see the physicians of their choice.
