Music, food highlight Tanzania presentation

DeKALB – Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1915 N. First St. in DeKalb, invites the community to an event benefiting its food pantry’s holiday meal program.

At 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, the church will host a concert and presentation about its pastor’s recent trip to Tanzania. Refreshments will include Tanzanian dishes.

In the concert, organist Jim Nerstheimer will perform “Concerto in C Major,” a unique composition by Bach that was later transcribed by Vivaldi, and other organ pieces. The Bethlehem Bell Choir will perform “Finlandia” by J. Sibelius, an Irish melody titled “Inisheer,” a composition by Vivaldi and three Polish Christmas carols.

Pastor Gary Erickson will give a photo presentation about his trip to Bethlehem’s partner church in Tanzania last summer.

The reception afterward will include snacks prepared by Pastor Gary based on a Tanzanian recipe.

A freewill offering will be taken to benefit the Bethlehem Lutheran Food Pantry. Specifically, donations will be used to purchase Holiday Meal Boxes for needy families in the area.
