ELGIN – DeKalb County residents older than 60 who are receiving a disability check or have had their utilities disconnected, or low-income people in a family with children younger than 5 can receive assistance with their home energy bills.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is taking applications.

The program helps households, including renters and homeowners, on a first-come, first-served basis. Program eligibility is based on the household’s combined monthly income.

Community Contacts Inc. in Elgin administers LIHEAP in Kane and DeKalb counties. Applications will be taken by appointment only. Call 847-697-4400 or 815-758-3835.
