Main Street to add bike racks

GENOA – Stop in downtown Genoa on a pleasant Saturday or Sunday and you will find bicycles leaning on buildings. The bikes belong to the many cyclists who make Genoa a regular stop on their weekend rides. Thanks to a grant obtained by Genoa Main Street Inc., there will be new racks to corral all those bikes.

“More cyclists seem to be coming through Genoa each year,” said Mim Evans, Genoa Main Street executive director. “We applied for a bike rack grant through the Lincoln Highway Coalition. The grant is funded by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration.”

Genoa has participated in Lincoln Highway programs for several years. The mural on Main Street was a result of a Lincoln Highway grant, and Genoa hosted the Lincoln Highway traveling exhibit in 2011. While Genoa is not on the Lincoln Highway, it is close enough that its economy was positively affected by construction of the highway.
