DeKALB – The city of DeKalb loose leaf collection will begin Monday, Oct. 15. Vacuum trucks will pick up leaves from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, subject to weather.
The first week, trucks will pick up leaves in both Section 1 – Lincoln Highway and south – and Section 2 – north of Lincoln Highway. From Oct. 22 through 26, leaves will be collected in Section 1 only. From Oct. 29 through Nov. 2, leaves will be collected in Section 2 only. Crews will continue to alternate sections each week through November.
Residents in the scheduled section should rake their leaves onto the parkway, directly behind the curb or gutter line between the sidewalk and the street. Do not rake leaves into the street; this blocks storm sewers and causes flooding. Leaves must be free of foreign material like sticks and rocks.
As an alternative to the vacuum pickup, Waste Management will collect leaves in open garbage cans or yard waste bags on regularly scheduled curbside garbage pickup days. Leaves in plastic bags will not be collected.
Landscape waste bins are available at the southeast corner of North Seventh and Oak streets and at the city garden plots at 950 W. Dresser Road. Do not place plastic bags in the bins.
