DeKALB – Each year since 1977, DeKalb Area Retirement Center - Oak Crest has named a community Good Samaritan. A Good Samaritan is a person who cares for others beyond the normal compassion of most people; who actively participates in community organizations and combines community service with personal caring; who works quietly to better the lives of others.

This year, Oak Crest Board President Tim Dunlop made the presentation of the 2012 Good Samaritan Award to Lou Jean Moyer.

Having spent most of her adult life in service to this community, Moyer personifies the Good Samaritan. Prior to making her home at Oak Crest, she served on the Oak Crest Board of Trustees as a member and president.
