Curves workout 'not for sissies'

Published: Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 12:10 p.m. CDT

SYCAMORE – From Sept. 10-22, Curves members will be showing Sycamore residents that through the strength they’ve gained at Curves, they have no limits. Curves of Sycamore will give all non-members who come into the club through Sept. 26 a free 30-day membership so they can see for themselves that Curves is not for sissies.

“Not For Sissies is such a fun event for us each year,” said Diane Kennett, owner of Sycamore Curves. “Our members love to get out into the community and do things they’ve never done, whether it’s something really adventurous like zip-lining or hiking, or something more sedate like volunteering on a home building project or gardening. What feeling strong and having no limits means to each one of us is such a personal thing, and Not For Sissies is about challenging yourself rather than comparing yourself to others. It’s very empowering.”

In addition to individual challenges that Curves members will be pledging to do, Curves of Sycamore is organizing a group “No Limits” event, scheduled for noon Saturday, Sept. 22. The event is open to the public and non-members are invited to participate. There will be truck pull races in the parking lot and refreshments will be served.

To encourage participants to document their adventures, Curves International is sponsoring a Not For Sissies Photo/Video Contest, with prizes up to $1,000. Contest details, rules, and entry form are available at www.curves.com/NFSContest.

For more information, call 815-899-5700 or come in to the club at 325 E. State St. in Sycamore.
