Bears chair visits Hiawatha

KIRKLAND – Chicago Bears Chairman George McCaskey visited Hiawatha District 426 in Kirkland on Tuesday, Aug. 21.

McCaskey helped the school to kick off its new Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports, or PBIS, program. He was introduced to those in attendance by Tim Halas, great-nephew of Bears founder George Halas and father of Hiawatha third grade teacher Stephanie Jorzak.

Hiawatha students were excited to host both Halas and McCaskey at the kickoff. PBIS focuses on teaching students expected behaviors in all settings in and around the school.  The district-wide program also rewards students for displaying positive behaviors. The district has chosen to focus upon the three core areas of respect, responsibility and readiness.
