GENOA – The 27th annual Pioneer Day is scheduled for 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at the Kishwaukee Valley Heritage Society in Genoa.
The theme for this year’s event is “Down on the Farm.” Many of the day’s activities and demonstrations are free. Demonstrations of 19th-century skills include wood carving, baking cornbread, churning butter, making apple butter, knitting, tatting, sewing, making quilts, operating a printing press and more.
In addition, there are many hands-on activities like shelling corn, making rope, a bean bag toss, sack races and live music. You can also buy a ticket for a ride on a genuine stage coach.
There will be a silent auction, a sale of homemade pies and a pork chop lunch by the Genoa Lions Club.
