An evening of wine and shooting stars

MAPLE PARK – STEM Outreach invites adults to the August STEM Cafe, “An Evening of Shooting Stars and Chardonels.”

This fun, casual event will be held at Acquaviva Winery, on Route 38 east of Maple Park. Three astronomy experts will talk about astronomy, telescopes and the Perseid meteor shower, which should peak that night.

Donna Kubic, a Northern Illinois University alum and astrophysicist at Fermilab, will talk about Fermilab’s Dark Energy Survey’s optical telescope. Pati Sievert, STEM outreach director at NIU, will show attendees how to use star wheels to locate celestial bodies in the night sky without the use of a smart phone app. Jeremy Benson, STEM outreach associate, will lead attendees in viewing planets and constellations through NIU’s telescopes.
