Dance academy celebrates 10th anniversary
SYCAMORE – The Performing Arts Academy will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year with a public celebration from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25 at 504 N. Main St. in Sycamore.
This event will include free dance classes, door prizes, face painting, bouncy house, food and other fun activities. Storybook Ballet (ages 3-5) will be held from 4 to 4:35 p.m., Ballet I/II (ages 6-10) from 4:40 to 5:15 p.m., Hip Hop/Jazz I/II (Ages 6-10) from 5:20 to 5:55 p.m., Barre/Pilates (Ages 16+) from 5:30 to 6:20 p.m., Tap (Ages 3-8) from 6 to 6:35 p.m. and Contemporary (Ages 11+) from 6:40 to 7:15 p.m.
Over the past decade the school has staged and choreographed several original ballet productions. Former students have received scholarships to elite summer programs, college scholarships for dance and continued their dance education. The school has formed its own syllabus using several different dance methods while considering age, level and proper rate of yearly progression. It has also created Storybook Ballet, a unique class which has been very successful.
