Suzuki students play anthem at ball game

DeKALB – Fifteen violinists from the Northern Illinois University Suzuki Strings program performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Cubs/Cardinals game at Busch Stadium on Sunday, July 22.

Director Ann Montzka Smelser was selected to bring her students along with two other Chicago-area Suzuki programs to join three Saint Louis Suzuki violin programs. More than 100 Suzuki violinists performed the national anthem at the game.

“It is a big thrill for our students,” Smelser said. “They were excited about getting a free hot dog and drink and enjoying the game together as well as performing.”
