Olympian tells kids, 'work hard'
DeKALB — Work hard and believe in yourself.
That was the message former Olympian Connie Teaberry offered on Olympic Day on Friday, June 24 at the Kishwaukee Family YMCA. The director of track and cross country at Northern Illinois University, she tied for 15th place in the high jump in the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
Overcoming several injuries to compete, Teaberry told the crowd of about 150 students between the ages of 5 and 13 that school is important, too.
