Meal programs try to bridge the summer gap

DeKALB – When he saw the results of a recent study on hunger, Pete Schaefer was disappointed but not surprised.

Schaefer, president and CEO of the Northern Illinois Food Bank, said the study commissioned by the organization’s parent company, Feeding America, reflected what he had been hearing from those who work in food pantries.

“People are still struggling,” he said.
