Bluegrass, jazz on tap at Folk Fest
DeKALB – Saturday, June 16, Gurler House will host its 12th annual Folk Music Fest from noon until 5 p.m.
The annual music festival is held on the lawn of the historic house at 205 Pine St. in DeKalb. This year’s free event will feature bluegrass and gospel music from three local bands, plus an artists market tent and a food tent serving Chicago-style hot dogs, chips and beverages.
Dave Balika and Friends will perform from noon until 12:45 p.m. This well-known DeKalb band will entertain with bluegrass-style dulcimer music. The Barb City Stompers will play traditional jazz from 1 until 2:45 p.m. This local band is popular throughout the region for its blend of Dixieland, jazz and swing. Truman’s Ridge will cap of the day with a performance from 3 until 4:45 p.m. Audiences will be delighted by the band’s take on traditional bluegrass; it plays “lightning fast” bluegrass and gospel music with Chicago style.
