Summer prime time for reading

As the school year draws to a close, libraries all over DeKalb County launch their summer reading programs.

Most programs offer preschool or elementary school aged children the chance to earn prizes by logging reading time. Many also schedule activities to keep families coming back to the library over the summer. Research has shown encouraging children to read over the summer can prevent summer learning loss, and children who read for recreation typically outperform their peers academically.

Check with your local library for details on its summer reading program.
