GENOA - Marilyn Belin of Genoa, office manager at Franks, Gerkin & McKenna law firm, is retiring after 45 years of working with managing partner Herb Franks.
Belin began working with Franks at a law firm in Rockford in the 1960s, when she was in her 20s and attending college part-time. Recognizing her talent, professionalism and work ethic, Franks asked her to continue working with him when he began his own practice in Marengo in the 1970s.
Today, the firm employs more than 25 lawyers and staff.
In addition to her duties as office manager, Belin helped to prepare complex documents and contributed to the design of the firm's office building. She is known as a tough negotiator with great compassion.
In retirement, Belin plans to spend more time with her family, including her two grandchildren, and to volunteer more often at her church. Ann Sprague will replace her as office manager.
