Dining Red samples county cuisine

A silent auction and art fair are among the attractions at the Dining Red fundraiser for the DeKalb County American Red Cross.

SYCAMORE — The DeKalb County American Red Cross will host its fourth annual signature event, Dining Red: A Sample of DeKalb County, from 5 until 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 10 at Blumen Gardens, 403 Edward St. in Sycamore.

Restaurants and caterers from throughout DeKalb County will offer samples of their menus for the 200 guests in attendance. The event also will feature entertainment by Craig Mathey, a silent auction, raffle and a local artist corner.

Some of the items in the artist corner are photography by Tim O’Shaughnessy and Debbie Miller, jewelry by Robin Schoenburg and Emma Hagemeyer, art by Marla Shega, David Zoberis and Sally Scott, knitting by Michele Paul, a garden mosaic by Cheryl Callighan and a fused glass bowl by Christy Klein.

Auction items include six nights at a condo in Orlando, Fla., White Sox tickets, a Galena weekend, entertainment and recreation tickets and local gift certificates.

Tony and Rhonda Koach have pledged to donate $1 to the chapter for every person who arrives at the event wearing red. Hosts for the evening are Kevin and Patti Poorten.

Sponsors include Anderson Funeral Home, Kishwaukee Community Hospital, Resource Bank, Northern Rehab and Physical Therapy Specialists, attorney Ron Klein and Castle Bank.

Restaurants and caterers participating are MVP Sports Club, Starbucks Coffee, Golden Thai Jasmine, The Hillside Restaurant, Fushi Yami, Inbodens, Nat’s on Maple, Noodles and Company, Premier Meals Catering, Sweet Dreams Desserts and Catering, Trattoria De Francesca, Steve E’s Fudge Shoppe, Hy-Vee, Tapa La Luna, Better With Sprinkles and Fay’s Kabobs.

All proceeds benefit the DeKalb County American Red Cross to provide services including disaster relief, aid to veterans and armed forces, blood services, and health and safety programs.
