Four Winds uses power of prayer

By KATIE ROYAL HUNTLEY - It’s in a small trailer off of Manning Road in Huntley that Pastor Mike Huskin holds his prayer meetings every Tuesday night. “Does anybody here love Jesus?” Huskin asks the group gathered before him for prayer. He is answered with an overwhelming affirmation. As founder of Four Winds Ministries, Huskin believes in the power of prayer and the ability of God to heal the sick and wounded. Through Four Winds, he has seen countless people around the world come to God and be healed through His power. Through crusades in places like Honduras, Uganda, Kenya, the Congo, and India, and even across the Unites States, he has met men and women with a similar vision and belief in God, and he has created national and international networks with pastors in each place he visits. There are several other places in multiple countries and continents that are asking and waiting for Four Winds to come minister to them as well. “We want to expose that God is not American, and that our way of doing things is not the only way,” Huskin said. “God is for everybody.” During one of the most recent prayer meetings, Brother Harry Gomes, a pastor Huskin met in India nearly 10 years ago, came to visit and impart his wisdom. Gomes told the group that they are never alone, no matter how lonely they may feel, because they are always with God. He encouraged people to speak with God about their problems, in order to give Him a chance to show them the blessings He gives to His believers. “Never depend upon the pity of man,” Gomes said. “Depend upon the mercy of the Lord.” It is a simple and encouraging message, especially to those who come to these meetings looking for prayer and healing in their lives. And Huskin is always sure to deliver. After sharing a message with the group, each meeting is concluded with group prayer and individual prayers for healing. Whether someone is suffering from depression, or back pain or even financial hardship, each person who is prayed over appears to leave the meeting with a sense of calm and peace about them. “It’s a different atmosphere than some churches' people are used to,” Huskin said. “But that’s on purpose, as we want to reach more people than sometimes those churches do.” In an effort to reach as many people as possible, Huskin makes several mission trips a year to places around the globe, spreading evangelism along the way. “A pastor can help build lives," Gomes said, "but an evangelist helps to build hope and nurture the soul." For the next year or so, Huskin will be focusing on a more local and national level than he has in recent years. “I’ve done eight years of overseas travel, essentially without a break, “ he said. “God is telling me to rest and focus on what’s happening here.” His outreach efforts will be focused in the United States until his next planned mission to India late in 2009. “We started out in the states, and we’re coming back to focus on the states,” he said. “When we go back overseas, we’re only going to come back stronger.”
