Kingston Juniors report The Kingston Juniors 4-H club had its second meeting on Oct. 1. Before the meeting, Lauri Paulsen held a scrap booking workshop. Twenty-one members were present at the regular meeting. There were five visitors who might join. We began our meeting by saying the pledge of allegiance and the 4-H pledge. We have about 90 fish for the Fishing Derby. Our new business discussion was about Hogwarts school of Science and Technology on the 8th, community service projects for animal shelters, the DeKalb County Retirement Home, and the food pantry. We talked about taking a trip to the Natural History Museum in Sycamore. Club achievement night will be on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. We will have a potluck and members will bring in past projects for new members and their families to see. Bring a dish to pass and service ware. Two members talked about past projects they had taken (Ben Watson about ceramics and Alex Gartner about photography). Jamie Hall had a word scramble and Alex Gartner brought lemonade to drink. Kelly Aves made a Dream Roll and cake. Our next meeting will be Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Lions Club Hall. - by Kelly Aves
League commends Burzynski The Illinois Civil Justice League (ICJL) recently recognized Sen. Brad Burzynski for receiving a score of 80 percent on the ICJL's mid-session scorecard. The scorecard tracked the voting records - on civil justice issues - of all members of the Illinois General Assembly. This scorecard reflects the roll call votes on the floor of the House and Senate, as well as committee votes on and sponsorships of bills that are important to the Illinois civil justice reform effort. By looking at roll call votes, committee votes and bill sponsorships, ICJL has produced the most detailed legislative scorecard - on any issue - in the state of Illinois. "It is important that Illinois voters know where their legislators stand on issues relating to the reform of our state's troubled legal system," said Edward Murnane, president of ICJL. "For too long, the personal injury trial lawyers have held too much clout in Springfield, advancing their stealth agenda of increasing their profits at the expense of hard-working Illinois citizens.” The scorecard assigns each legislator a percentage score based on the number of times he or she supported or opposed a key bill.
