Children’s Community Theatre schedules auditions for 2 spring shows

Children’s Community Theatre will have auditions in December for two shows – Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka” and Disney’s “Frozen Jr.”

“Willy Wonka,” which features songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder and new songs by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley, follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets wins a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy.

“Frozen Jr.” is based on the 2018 Broadway musical. It brings Elsa, Anna and the magical land of Arendelle to life on stage. The show features all of the memorable songs from the animated film, with music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, plus five new songs written for the Broadway production.

Auditions for “Willy Wonka” are open to children and adults age 8 and older. Auditions for “Frozen Jr.” are open to ages 7 to 18.

Auditions for both shows will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 8 and Dec. 9 at First United Methodist Church, 317 N. Fourth St. in DeKalb. Those interested should come prepared to sing a short song a cappella and cold read from the script. No experience is necessary. Participants with all levels of experience are welcome.

The cost to be in either performance is a $15 membership fee per family and a $10 production fee per cast member.

Performances of “Willy Wonka” will be March 6-8 and March 13-14 at the NIU O’Connell Theatre. Performances of “Frozen Jr.” will be April 23-26 at the Egyptian Theatre in DeKalb.
