DeKALB – Westminster Presbyterian Church, 830 N. Annie Glidden Road in DeKalb, holds community dinners on two Thursdays a month from 5 to 7 p.m.
The Community Dinners outreach began in September 2018 as a way to uplift those in the Annie Glidden/Northern Illinois University neighborhood. Dinners include a variety of menus designed to nourish and sustain. Attendees are allowed one or more take-home meal for household members who can not attend or for themselves.
The menu for the Nov. 7 meal will include pulled pork barbecue and barbecue chicken and the Nov. 21 meal will be a Thanksgiving dinner. Doors open at 4:45 p.m.
There is no cost to participate in any Westminster outreach activity. Proof of identification or proof of income is not required. The sanctuary is open for those seeking comfort, but participation is not solicited or required for food. All are welcome.
WPC is an open and affirming church. Leftovers are donated to the Hope Haven emergency shelter on Rushmoore Drive in DeKalb. Take-home meals are available after everyone has eaten.
College students are encouraged to attend for a homestyle hot meal.
Contact the church office at 815-756-2905 if your group or organization would like to volunteer. Donations of canned goods, dry goods, meat or financial contributions are always welcome.
